What is keyword research?

What is keyword research?

Keyword research is the process of finding and analyzing words and phrases related to a particular topic that people are searching for on the internet. It's an important part of any search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, as it helps you identify topics that you can rank for on search engines like Google. Knowing which keywords are most relevant to your target audience also helps you create content around these topics so that your prospects may find and consume it—ultimately leading to more organic visitors, leads, and sales.

Keywords are the foundation of any SEO strategy; they provide the building blocks of a successful website. But without proper keyword research, even the best SEO efforts can be wasted. That's why it's important to understand how to properly research keyword trends so that your SEO efforts don't go to waste.

The process of keyword research mainly involves two steps:

1) Finding keywords that have high search volumes and low competition levels; and

2) Analyzing them from a topical aspect.

This means looking at them from a topical aspect, determining whether or not they fit into your content and making sure that there is enough search demand for them before creating content around them or adding them to existing pieces as an effort to improve their rankings in the SERPs.

There are many tools available online to help with keyword research, including popular ones like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, SEMrush and Moz Keyword Explorer. These web-based tools offer various ways of researching relevant keywords (e.g., related searches), in addition to helpful metrics like estimated volume rates and competition level ratings. By using these tools effectively during your keyword research process, you can make sure you are targeting exactly what people are searching for—and avoid wasting time writing content based on low traffic/low value keywords that won't bring organic success down the line.

Once you have identified which keywords have potential for success within your SEO efforts, it's time to build out pages based on those topics or incorporate those terms into existing content pieces throughout your website. This will help ensure Google understands what topics you website covers best so that your site can start appearing more in SERPs for relevant queries!
